We are a private, non-profit organization that is dedicated to promoting and conserving the natural, scenic, and historic resources of Willard Brook State Forest and other natural areas, including the Nashua River Rail Trail and Pearl Hill State Park in north central Massachusetts.

 Saturday, February 11.  11:00 AM.  Townsend State Forest Hike/Snowshoe. Enjoy a winter hike or snowshoe through Townsend State Forest along the Dead Swamp Trail.  Meet at the end of Fessenden Hill Road off of route 13 north of Townsend center.  Doug Campbell will lead this trip.  Call Doug the day before the hike at 978-973-5994 for last minute instructions about equipment.

 

Sunday, February 12.  10:00 AM.  Mid-State Trail Hike/Snowshoe.  Meet at Camp Winnekeag on route 101 in Ashburnham for this approximately 4 mile trip northward on the Mid-State Trail to Blueberry Hill and Fisher Hill.  Trail conditions will determine whether we’ll snowshoe or hike.  Call Sherisa Sterling at 978-827-3272 with questions.

The Friends of Willard Brook is a non-profit organization formed in 2004.  Our purpose, as excerpted from our bylaws, is:

  • to promote and conserve the natural, scenic and historic resources of the Willard Brook State Forest and its Satellite Areas
  • to foster the use and enjoyment of Willard Brook State Forest and its Satellite Areas by the public in a manner consonant with the protection and preservation of the environment
  • to engage in such educational, scientific and charitable activities as will assist the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the operation of Willard Brook State Forest and its Satellite Areas
  • to assist and work in cooperation with the Forest Supervisor in general support and enrichment of Willard Brook State Forest and its Satellite Areas
